The Quintett
The five of us are no professional musicians, most of all music is our big hobby and our passion!
We were profiting of the education of one of the best teachers a harmonica player can have, Walter Buchinger. Laakirchen was made world famous for harmonica playing by him. Already in our childhood we were collecting experience with him in many concerts troughout
Austria
and in several other European countries.
With him we were able to celebrate a lot of successes in international competitions in diverse groupings either as orchestra, solo players, duo, trio, quartet or quintet.
Shortly before we left for our last journey with the music
school
of
Laakirchen
to give concerts in
Jersey
in the year 2000, we Ingrid, Lisa, Maria, Joachim and Georg decided to learn our first piece without the help of our teacher Walter. After a few pints of beer in an English pub we dared to surprise him with our piece and he was visibly delighted. A new quintet was born.
The piece we are talking about is the “Butterfly Rhapsody” written by Jean Labre, which was finally giving our quintet its name.
The first World Harmonica Festival as “Quintet Butterfly” was Trossingen 2001, where we were participating successfully.
Partly under the guidance of Walter Buchinger we were winning prices in many festivals:
- Innsbruck 1989
- Trossingen 1997
- Bournemouth 2000
- Trossingen 2001
Our last successes were a 2nd place with the piece “Orpheus in der Unterwelt” (Jacques Offenbach) with only 0.3 points difference to the winners (Six Harmonix) in Trossingen 2005 and the winning of the category “harmonica groups” at the festival in Innsbruck 2007 presenting the “ZgraMaRa Hora” (Zgraja, Mandel and Raisner) arranged by ourselves.
We were already giving concerts and gigs in:
- Linz (Brucknerhaus, Arcotel)
- Salzburg
- Klagenfurt (concert at the 2nd and 7th international harmonica player meeting)
- Graz (concert at the festival Promonica West)
- Innsbruck
- Frankfurt
- Vaduz (concert journey)
- Jersey (concert journey)
- Bournemouth
- Beilngries (concert at the 6th harmonica festival)
- Trossingen
- Pärnu/Estonia
- Buchers/Czech Republic
- Klingenthal/Germany
- Laakirchen (every now and than at home with gladness),
just to mention the most important ones.
Our motto:
We don´t just want to play harmonica... ...we want to make our music alive with it
